EBB Program ZIP Codes

How are Earthquake Brace + Bolt Program ZIP Codes Selected?

The Earthquake Brace + Bolt program is available only for homes in select ZIP Codes. New areas are added with every program year using the following two criteria, which are weighted equally:

  1. Earthquake Hazard: Hazard is identified using the United States Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake hazard map for California.
  2. Earthquake Vulnerability: Vulnerability is represented by identifying the percentage of pre-1940 houses in ZIP Codes in California (US Census Data). Older houses are more likely to require earthquake bracing and bolting.

These two criteria combined guide the selection of new ZIP Codes to be added to the EBB program. This selection process was approved by the California Residential Mitigation Program Governing Board, which advises EBB.
